Ten Alabama community colleges had students earn medals this week at the 2023 Alabama SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference and SkillsUSA Championships held at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile.

The SkillsUSA competition is an annual event, providing high school and college students an opportunity to showcase their technical skills training, leadership development and hands-on experiences in a series of competitive tasks.

Alabama community college students earned 103 medals overall, including 49 golds.

Colleges participating at the competition were Bevill State Community College, Calhoun Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College, Drake State Community and Technical College, Gadsden State Community College, Jefferson State Community College, Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, Northeast Community College, Northwest-Shoals Community College and Wallace State Community College.

Medals were earned in the following competitions: Additive Manufacturing, Architectural Drafting, Automotive Manufacturing Technology, Automotive Refinishing Technology, Automotive Service Technology, Barbering, Carpentry, CNC Milling Specialist, CNC 5 Axis Milling, CNC Technician, CNC Turning Specialist, Collision Repair Technology, Commercial Banking, Commercial Drone, Computer Programming, Cosmetology, Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Customer Service, Diesel Equipment Technology, Electrical Construction Wiring, Engineering Technology/Design, Esthetics, Extemporaneous Speaking, HVAC & Refrigeration, Job Interview, Job Skill Demonstration, Industrial Motor Control, Interworking, Mechatronics, Medical Math, Medical Terminology, Mobile Robotic Technology, Motorcycle Service Technology, Nail Care, Natural Hair Design, Prepared Speech, Power Equipment Technology, Related Technical Math, Restaurant Service, Robotics and Automation Technology, Urban Search and Rescue, Welding, Welding Fabrication and Welding Sculpture.

All gold medal winners have the opportunity to compete nationally at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, scheduled for June 19-23 in Atlanta.
