MONTGOMERY – At the Alabama Community College System board of trustees meeting on Wednesday, Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker announced the selection of Brad Newman as president of Shelton State Community College.

Newman has 28 years of leadership and management experience. Prior to his appointment at Shelton State, he served as Plant Manager for ZF Chassis Systems, LLC in Tuscaloosa, one of the company’s top performing facilities in the world. Newman is also a recognized leader in the local community, serving as chairman of West Alabama Works, vice chair of Education and Workforce Development for the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the West Alabama Regional Workforce Council/Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Board.

“Shelton State is a unique institution situated ideally for students in the backyard of both opportunities to further their higher education and to enter directly into well-paying, high-demand careers,” Baker said. “Brad’s leadership in West Alabama on workforce development issues makes him an ideal advocate for the education and training Shelton State provides their students. Brad is the right person to lead Shelton State into the future and I am confident that once the Buccaneer community gets to know him, they will have as much confidence as I do in his commitment to their college.”

Newman is a founding member of the German Business Council and a member of the Alabama Germany Partnership. He also serves as an Advisory Board Member for the University of Alabama Blackburn Institute. Newman has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Alabama.

“Working in Tuscaloosa for the past decade has shown me the important role Alabama’s community colleges play in providing a path to a better future,” said Newman. “As a local industry leader, I know first-hand the critical role Shelton State plays in the community and the important impact the quality education and training the college provides has on the local economy. I look forward to meeting with students, faculty, staff, and administrators over the coming weeks as we take steps to continue to move Shelton State forward.”

Newman’s tenure at Shelton State will begin no later than April 1, 2021.
