GED Graduate Making a Difference
Are you seeking a better education or a job with higher earning potential? The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Adult Education Division is dedicated to assisting you with obtaining your General Education Diploma (GED®).
Passing the GED® test is a significant accomplishment that opens doors to career opportunities. Adult Education classes and programs are tailored to your schedule to cover basic workforce skills in reading, math, science, and social studies required to pass the GED® test.
You can take the test without taking Adult Education classes, but we are ready and waiting to help you prepare. Best of all, our classes are free of charge! Contact your local Adult Education provider to learn more about the benefits of taking classes to prepare for the test.
If you are age 18 or older, you don’t need to be an official resident of Alabama to take the GED® test. However, you cannot be a high school graduate or currently attending any type of high school coursework (i.e., public, private, or home school).
If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must meet additional requirements, including the following:

Alabama Residency

Permission From Your Local School District

Parental or Guardian Approval
The GED Test
The GED test includes a variety of question formats in four key areas of education:
Science

(90 minutes)

Reading Through Language Arts

To complete the full test, it would typically take 7 hours, but you will have the flexibility to break it up if you are not prepared to do it all at once! Â
To pass the GED and obtain the High School Equivalency, you must score a minimum of 145 in each subject area. If you need accommodations, you can request them when you register for the test. You should receive information in your email about accommodations, once you have registered. Â
