Retirement

The Alabama Community College System participates in the Retirement Systems of Alabama Teachers Retirement System. Teachers Retirement System is a state mandated program where a percentage of your salary is withheld per pay period for an individual’s retirement account.   The percentage is determined by an employee’s hire date and any prior participation in the Retirement Systems of Alabama.  At this time, if a new employee has previously participated in the Retirement Systems of Alabama prior to January 1, 2013, they are considered a Tier I employee; therefore, 7.5% of the salary is withheld.  All other employees with a hire date of January 1, 2013, and after are considered Tier II employees and 6% of salary is withheld.  The State of Alabama also has two (2) deferred compensation programs for employees:  RSA-1 and Great West.  Participation in these plans allows a state employee to elect to defer receipt of a portion of their salary until a later determined date, usually at retirement or other termination of service.  Because receipt of the income is deferred, the deferred income is not included in the participant’s current federal or state gross taxable income. For more information on deferred compensation plans, please visit www.rsa-al.gov for RSA-1 and www.alabamaretire.com  for Great West.

Tuition Waiver

This tuition assistance program is designed for all full-time benefits eligible employees, retirees, and benefits eligible H Salary Schedule employees of The Alabama Community College System and the Alabama Community College System office and their dependents defined by policy. It is the responsibility of the employee and/or dependent to ensure that all documents and forms (requested by the College where the student is enrolled) are submitted and signed by the appropriate personnel in a timely manner prior to submission.
