Athletics

We offer an entire network of men and women’s collegiate level sports, including baseball (M), basketball (M/W), golf (M/W), tennis (M/W), softball (W), and volleyball (W). ACCS athletics teams make up the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC). Some of our colleges also have student cheer and spirit clubs for you to cheer on your favorite teams!

Fine Arts

Highly respected fine arts instructors at our colleges prepare and inspire artists to achieve their greatest dreams. Our students have real chances to create and perform productions in front of prominent leaders and entertainment industry professionals. Scholarship opportunities are available across several different disciplines – including art, band, choir, dance, music production, photography, show choir, and theatre.

Phi Theta Kappa

The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is an international honor society of two-year colleges. For over 100 years, Phi Theta Kappa has recognized the academic achievements of two-year college students. There are over 1,200 chapters worldwide with over 30 chapters in the Alabama Community College System.

Founded in 1918, the mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to “recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.” The chapters provide opportunities for members to develop by engaging in honors, leadership, service, and fellowship programming. In addition, Phi Theta Kappa provides a wealth of scholarship opportunities to its members.

National Technical Honor Society

NTHS is an honor society for outstanding career and technical students of workforce vocational education institutions in the United States. Alabama Community College System maintains its own NTHS organization.

The National Technical Honor Society began in 1984. The society honors the achievements of leading career and technical education students and provides scholarships and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive, skilled workforce.

National Society of Leadership and Success

Are you a leader at heart, or do you want to become one? You may have access to scholarship opportunities and regular leadership training in the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). The leadership honor society is represented at several community colleges and four-year universities in Alabama.

Phi Beta Lambda

If you are interested in building or advancing your own business, consider joining Phi Beta Lambda. The organization is designed to develop competent, community-minded business leaders through relevant career preparation and leadership opportunities.

Skills USA

Skills USA adds to your college experience by implementing leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development on campus. Students studying a technical career, such as the following disciplines, are welcome to join: Computer Science, Nursing, EMS, Drafting, Child Care Development, Criminal Justice, and Electronic Technology.

Scholars’ Bowl

Collegiate brains unite at statewide and national scholars’ bowl competitions that test your knowledge and teamwork capabilities. ACCS scholars’ bowl teams have brought home top honors while competing through National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT).

Student Government Association

Are politics more your forte? Try your hand in a student government organization. From leadership positions to general population democracy, your voice can be heard throughout campus! The SGA is the pulse of student life: students work to better their colleges by taking part in understanding their campus’s needs and creating activities that improve the college experience. The SGA also leads community service activities in their regions.
