Bevill State Torch Competition – Jasper/Sumiton

First place category winners must meet the minimum academic standards as established by the College and abide by regulations as established by Bevill State Community College. Academic competition winners must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA on high school coursework attempted to be eligible for a scholarship award. Career Technical competition winners must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA on high school coursework attempted to be eligible for a scholarship award.This competition is by invitation only to area high schools and centers of technology. This event allows sophomores, juniors and seniors to compete in academic or career technical categories. Each category will have a first, second and third place winner. All first place winners will be eligible to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria:

Competitors who win in the Career Technical area must use the scholarship to enroll in a Career Technical program.

Each 10th and 11th grade 1st place winner will be awarded a Summer Torch Scholarship to cover the tuition for one 3-hour course for the summer semester immediately following the competition, providing recipients meet admissions criteria as either an Accelerated High School Students or Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit Student.

Senior winners will be awarded a Torch Scholarship. This scholarship is valued at $1,000.00 for one year. Winners will receive $500.00 for fall and spring semesters.

To receive a Torch Scholarship, all winners will be required to complete a Torch Scholarship Application on the day of the competition.
