The National Association of State Directors of Adult Education (NASDAE) announced Tuesday, June 22, the election of David Walters, State Director of Adult Education, Special Projects and System Initiatives for the Alabama Community College System (ACCS), to the NASDAE Executive Board of Directors.
Walters was elected by his peers to serve a two-year term as a representative on the board. His term begins July 1, 2021.
Walters’ career spans over 26 years with experience in elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education. He joined the ACCS in 2014. Since that time, the state’s adult education programs have expanded to more than 400 locations, and programs – including Ready to Work – have expanded to serve residents both in-person and virtually. Career and college pathways specific to adult education have also been introduced systemwide.
In addition to his service to NASDAE, Walters serves on the Executive Committee for the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Transformation (GOEWT). He previously served on the Executive Committee for the Alabama Campaign for Grade Level Reading and on the Alabama Counts Census 2020 Executive Committee.
Walters also serves as a member of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) National Reporting System Technical Work group. He is the current President of the Prattville/Millbrook Sunrise Rotary International Club.
The NASDAE, which is operated by a 13-member Board of Directors, coordinated, develops and conducts programs of professional development for state adult education leadership; serves as a catalyst for public policy review and development related to adult education; and disseminates information on the field of adult education.
Alabama’s Adult Education Division represents a no-cost, one-stop-shop for residents to obtain their GED or high school equivalency, job training, ESL and Family Literacy services.
