MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) has surpassed 100,000 students in credit-based programs this fall, marking the first time fall enrollment has exceeded that mark since 2010, when college enrollment across the nation was at an all-time high.

As of this week, enrollment stands at 100,415 students, just shy of the Fall 2010 enrollment of 102,101. With Fall Mini Term II courses still being finalized, this semester currently represents a 3% increase over the final fall 2025 number and the sixth consecutive year of enrollment growth for the System. Sixteen of the 24 ACCS colleges are seeing enrollment increases this fall, and students are enrolled in more than 836,000 credit hours.

In total, ACCS serves more than 182,000 students across its colleges and programs which includes non-credit education and training offerings through adult education, workforce training, the ACCS Innovation Center, and more.

While national college enrollment averages have been on a decline since 2020, Alabama’s community colleges have experienced increased enrollment during the same time period.  More than 31,000 ACCS students who were enrolled during the Fall 2025 through Summer 2026 semesters transferred to public and private universities to continue their education.

Fall 2026 enrollment figures are preliminary and will be updated when Mini Term II courses are finalized.
